What This Service Includes

Suitable work may include:

  • Grab bar installation in bathrooms, showers, and near toilets, anchored into studs or rated backing
  • Handrail installation or tightening along stairs and entry steps
  • Smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector installation or replacement
  • Light fixture replacements at existing fixture locations in hallways, stairwells, and entryways
  • Non-slip strips or mats in showers and tubs
  • Threshold and small trip-hazard fixes where the surface and scope allow
  • Grouping several of the above into one visit when access and scope allow

Structural modifications, walk-in tub or shower conversions, stairlifts, ramps, and anything that needs a permit or a contractor's license are outside this service.

Who This Service Is (and Isn’t) For

This service may fit:

  • Homeowners who want to stay in their current home longer and are looking at a handful of safety fixes rather than a full remodel
  • Adult children coordinating small safety upgrades for a parent's home
  • Anyone who wants working smoke and CO detectors and brighter replacement light fixtures without a bigger renovation

This may not be the right fit for:

  • Walk-in tub or shower conversions, stairlifts, ramps, or anything that needs a permit or a contractor's license
  • Structural or major layout changes
  • Work requiring a licensed specialty contractor

03 · TIMING

When a Handyman is the Right Choice

This service may be useful after a fall or health scare, before a parent or family member moves in or visits for an extended stay, or any time detectors are past their replacement date or a bathroom or stairway just feels less safe than it used to.

Send photos of each area before scheduling. If something needs a different service or a licensed contractor, I'll identify that during scope review.

04 · PRICING

Pricing Expectations (What Homeowners Should Know)

Common safety jobs have flat labor prices. A grab bar, easy-grip lever handles, a raised toilet seat or toilet safety frame, or a smoke or CO detector is $180 for the first item and +$60 for each extra small fix on the same visit. A handrail on one short run is $240. I confirm the price from your photos before I come out.

Pricing depends on the number of areas, the type of work at each one (grab bar vs. detector vs. light fixture), wall or surface type, available backing, and access. My minimum service charge applies as it does for any visit.

A $180 minimum service charge may apply to smaller or standalone visits.

Can you do a walkthrough of the whole house and recommend what needs fixing?
I can review specific areas you send photos of. A full-house safety assessment beyond that may be outside my scope — send me what's on your mind and I'll tell you what fits.

Do you install grab bars into tile or fiberglass showers?
Sometimes. The surface, backing, and mounting location need to be reviewed first — send close-up photos of the area.

Can you help if I'm doing this for a parent's house and I don't live there?
Yes. Photos and access details can come from you or the homeowner — just make sure whoever is on-site can let me in.

Is this covered for a rental property I own?
Use the same request form and mention it's a rental property.

What's excluded?
Walk-in tub/shower conversions, stairlifts, ramps, structural changes, and anything that needs a permit or a contractor's license.
