How Much Does Recaulking Cost in San Diego?

Unstoppable Handyman project in San Diego

For two common recaulking jobs, the price is $255

For two common, straightforward recaulking jobs, the consistent price is $255 for labor and materials:

  • A standard bathtub and bathroom-sink combination
  • A standard kitchen sink plus the countertop-to-backsplash seam

Photos are required for every caulking service request. For these two standard scopes, the price is $255 when photos confirm a suitable, accessible area where the old caulk can be removed, the surfaces can be prepared, and the surrounding materials are in good enough condition for new sealant to do its job.

What does standard recaulking include?

For a suitable bathroom or kitchen seam, the visit typically includes reviewing the visible condition, removing failed caulk where needed, preparing the accessible seam, applying the appropriate replacement sealant, and explaining any cure-time expectations.

The goal is not to cover a problem with a fresh bead of caulk. It is to replace failed sealant where the surrounding surfaces are sound enough for that work to make sense.

When is a $255 recaulking visit a good fit?

The standard examples are usually a good fit when the issue is limited to visible, accessible caulk around a tub, bathroom sink, kitchen sink, or backsplash and there is no sign of a larger underlying problem. Photos are still required to confirm the job fits that standard scope before scheduling.

Send a wide photo of the full area and close-ups of every seam you want addressed.

What about shower doors, toilets, baseboards, or other areas?

Photos are required for every service request. Shower doors, toilets, baseboards, and other nonstandard areas do not have one set price: the amount of old material to remove, the surfaces involved, access, the condition behind the failed seam, and how many areas are included can change the scope.

This is especially important around shower doors and toilets, where visible gaps can sometimes point to a problem beyond the sealant itself. It also matters for baseboards, trim, and drywall, because a small visible gap may be simple maintenance—or it may reveal moisture damage that needs a different plan.

Can a handyman fix minor damage found near failed caulk?

Sometimes. If the damage is minor, we may be able to add small related items such as baseboard repair or replacement, minor drywall repair, or another manageable touch-up during the visit.

If the condition turns out to be more involved after we arrive, we will show you what we found and discuss it before recaulking the area or changing the price. You can then decide how you want to proceed.

What is outside a normal recaulking visit?

New caulk does not solve active plumbing leaks, hidden water intrusion, rot, failed waterproofing, structural movement, mold remediation, or broader reconstruction. If the visible condition suggests one of those issues, the right next step may be a different repair or a qualified trade rather than simply applying new caulk.

Are photos required before asking for a recaulking quote?

Yes. Photos are required for every caulking request, including the two standard $255 examples. They let us confirm the full area, the condition of the existing sealant, and whether the work appears to be a good fit for a planned handyman visit. For nonstandard areas, photos are also the basis for a situation-specific estimate.

Start with a wide photo and a close-up of each seam. If there is peeling paint, soft material, staining, damaged drywall, or a gap that appears to be moving, include that in the photos too.
